Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty (plasty of a nose) is the plastic surgery aimed at surgical correction of  size and/or shape of a nose. The task of it is creation of new harmonious appearance with keeping of person`s individual characteristic features: improvement of a nose shape, change of its size, correction of congenital defects and quite often correction of breathing problem.

Indications to operation • reinforced tip of a nose; • saddle-shaped nose; • aquiline nose; • nose deformation after a trauma; • long nose; • large nostrils; • disorders of nasal breath; Before operation Rhinoplasty is full-fledged surgical intervention with general anesthesia in a combination with local anesthesia. Therefore it  is necessary  for patient to consult with experts (the ENT specialist, the  therapeutist, the anesthesiologist). To avoid   any complications during operation, it is necessary to tell your doctor about existence of chronic and acute diseases, suffered diseases, possible allergic reactions to medicines on the moment of operation. Operation is performed in specialized clinical conditions. Before the Rhinoplasty, also as well as before majority of plastic surgeries, you have to avoid smoking, taking aspirin & other medicines that can influence on blood clotting, as it leads to bleeding during operation. Procedure The technique of plastic surgery depends on tasks facing the surgeon and existing conditions. The essence of intervention consists of correction of the bone and cartilage structures forming a skeleton of a nose. There are two methods of carrying out this operation: with an external incision on skin of nasal septum (“opened” rhinoplasty) and with the using of just intranasal incision (“closed” rhinoplasty). At the “closed” access (internal rhinoplasty) the surgeon performs all incisions and manipulations in a nasal cavity, surgeon makes one small incision in each nostril which isn’t visible outside and after a while is hardly distinguishable even at medical examination. The integument separates from cartilage and bone tissues then correction of a form or the size of nasal cartilages and integument restoration is made. When the “opened” rhinoplasty was performing where the incision passes by a cutaneous part of a nasal septum, in narrowest place, there is a scar on a cutaneous part of a nasal septum which is hardly appreciable. Besides, sometimes it is used additional incisions of skin at the base of nostrils. The scars after these incisions as a rule hardly appreciable. In case of need to perform difficult operation, the surgeon makes manipulations on a bony part of a nose. By means of special designed tools the part of a bone forming a small hump of a nose is eliminated. Also, by means of surgical intervention bony parts are matched to form nose shape. In the most difficult cases performing of nose correction has to be done in some stages. Duration of operation on rhinoplasty is strictly individual and usually doesn’t exceed two hours. Rehabilitation period During the first days after operation the patient has to stay in hospital. After Rhinoplasty , as well as after any surgical intervention, temporary edema of nose tissues and eyes area is normal. Also sensitiveness in the operated zone can be lost, during the first days stuffiness in nose and some painful feelings are possible. To avoid any complications during the postoperative period 7-10 days the patient has to wear tight butterfly-shaped adhesive bandage on a nose.  For 10 — 14 days it can be fruise under your eyes. A little swollen of external nose tissues remains 3 — 4 months, but often it isn’t noticeable for people around. As a rule, in 1 — 2 weeks the nose takes an acceptable form. Terms of restoration of habitual level of social activity depend on specific features and on performed operation complexity level. The first two days after rhinoplasty local application of cooling compresses on area of nose and eyes are indicated. Anesthetic and sedative drugs can be prescribed when it is needed. For the first two weeks of the postoperative period it is recommended to sleep with the raised headrest, for better liquid outflow from the postoperative area. As a rule, the majority of patients can already turn up for work in 4 — 5 days after rhinoplasty.  However within the first months there can be some restrictions in considerable physical activities, smoking and some kinds of activity, it is necessary to exclude hot, spicy and salty dishes from a diet. Within 5 — 8 weeks after operation it is not recommended to wear glasses in a heavy frame. Results Processes of tissue formation and structural changes after rhinoplasty, as a rule, last  6 — 8 months, in some cases till 1 year. It is commonly supposed that the rhinoplasty final result can be estimated not earlier than this time. The most suitable age for performing esthetic rhinoplasty is the period from 20 to 35 — 40 years, however, in some cases, operation can be made at any age.
